Michael Winters worked 17 years in the private sector in construction, real estate management, mortgage banking, manufacturing and business management. During his construction tenure he worked in residential, commercial and industrial petrol chemical construction.
Michael has his Bachelor and Masters Degree in Business Management from Azusa Pacific University. Michael has served the community as a City of San Gabriel Planning Commissioner assisting in the development of the Cities General Plan, Community Volunteer Coordinator, School Site Council Vice Chair, Appointed to the San Gabriel Unified School District School Board Advisory Committee, appointed as a member for the State of California Academic Senate Discipline Work Group for SB70 articulation agreements in Green and Sustainable Construction and Environmental Technology.
Michael was appointed as a member of the Green Schools Summit for K-12 Advisory Board to develop the teacher's student program for their inaugural event in Pasadena 2007. Michael began teaching in fall of 1997 at Gabrielino High School to create a connected learning opportunity between, drafting, technology and construction.
The program at Gabrielino has become a research and development center that focuses on green and sustainable projects related to alternative energy, waste management, water resources, waste water systems, disaster preparedness, sustainable design and urban planning. The classroom is a project based environment, facilitated by Michael; the students run their own team projects. Students have co wrote grants for BP A+ for Energy grants and have received 7 grants for $10,000.00. Michael has conducted over 30 staff development workshops in Career Technical education, grant writing, project based learning in both career related classroom teaching environments and academic learning environments. Michael has worked for Johns Hopkins University co teaching an engineering class and California Institute of Technology working in Microbial Research of bio diesel fuel.
